Aloha,

My name is Dyson Chee. I’m 18 years old, and for the first time in my life, I get to vote.

I’m sorry to bother you, but this is something that means the world to me. Rather than watching from the sidelines, frustrated by the lack of progress on critical issues that will impact my life for decades to come, I get to participate in the political process and play an active role in shaping my future.

Over the past 6 months, I’ve put in a lot of hours doing all I can to support Kim Coco Iwamoto’s campaign for State House District 26. You might wonder why an 18-year-old is spending his days knocking on doors, waving signs, calling neighbors and writing letters when he could be finding ways to celebrate the successful end of his high school career. The answer is simple... because even though this is the very first time I will ever vote, I want my vote to matter.

When it comes to the issues that concern me most, Kim Coco is the candidate who understands those issues, shares my concerns and is prepared to do what it takes to create solutions. Working on her campaign gives me hope that we will soon see the policies needed to reverse climate change, lift people out of poverty and protect our civil liberties.

Kim Coco is funny. She’s smart. When she explains what she will do to reform our political system so it works for everyone, I see those changes happening. I believe in her and I encourage you to believe in her too.

I understand that, as parents and grandparents, you don’t have the time to go all out to support a political campaign that inspires you. But every hour I spent on Kim Coco’s campaign will be worth it if you help me resolve the issues that impact my future by choosing Kim Coco Iwamoto for State House.

I’ve written this letter as a message from my generation to yours. It’s meant to be a message of hope. Together we can create a future that you will be proud to leave to me and I will be honored to inherit from you.

Sincerely,
Dyson Chee
